As 2018 edges to a close, the hard-working committee from Community Carers Accommodation South East is celebrating another great milestone, with Stage 2 of Booraja House ready to welcome guests in time for Christmas.

“It’s certainly been a busy year for us,” CCASE president Lynne Koerbin said. “We signed our grant agreement with the Building Better Regions Fund in March this year, received our construction certificate two weeks later and our team has been working hard ever since to complete the project on schedule.”
Stage 2 involved the construction of another six self-contained rooms, which effectively doubles the capacity of the carers accommodation. A communal building with a kitchen, dining and sitting rooms has also been constructed, which really adds to the comfort of guests.
“We’ve been so lucky with who we’ve had supporting the project,” Ms Koerbin said.
“CCASE made an early commitment to use local companies and it was a great decision. Our best decision to date has been to partner with Leser Build for construction. David Leser and his team have been fantastic to work with, and have ensured our building has been constructed to the highest standard. It really looks wonderful.”
One of the elements of the selection process was how the tender ‘gave back’ to the community. “David Leser is certainly very community minded and has always been thoughtful about project costs. He very generously made a commitment to make a cash donation back to the project as part of his tender.”
On Wednesday, representatives of CCASE met with Mr Leser for the final building inspection and were presented with three generous donations. Leser Build made an outstanding donation of $20,000, with unexpected but very welcome donations of $2000 each from Greg Eastman Electrical and Sapphire Painting.
“Once again, our wonderful community has come to the fore to get our carers accommodation over the line. I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved, but particularly to Leser Build and their sub contractors for their great work,” Ms Koerbin said.
“This facility will be part of our community for years to come and we can all be very proud of how everyone has pulled together to make it happen.”
The official opening of Stage 2 has been scheduled for January 18, when everyone will be invited to have a peek through the facility.
