Several years ago the town’s supermarket closed, which meant residents had to drive to either Bermagui, Bega or Narooma to do their shopping.
But on December 1, the Cobargo General Store opened its doors giving people the chance to do their shopping locally once again.
Business owners Jane and Alfred Solti said from the very first day they have had a great response from the public.
“We have been completely overwhelmed from the support we’ve gotten from this town and our close friends as well who’ve been working day and night with us,” Ms Solti said.

You may recognise the couple from their other business, Cobargo Home Made Ice Cream.
The store features a specialist deli, fresh fruit and vegetables from the local area and their home made ice cream in addition to general items. There are also plans to expand the inventory with customers being asked what they want to see on the shelves, within reason.
“This is our town, we’ve been here for over 12 years and we aren’t going anywhere basically,” Mr Solti said.
"We want this to be a success more in terms of what it can do for the community. So far we’ve found it’s a bit of a social hub for the the town.”
The Cobargo General Store is open 9am-5pm Mondays to Fridays and 9am-12noon on Saturdays.
