Zac Swan won the under 18s category at Eden Whale Festival’s Artists Who Wood competition with a coffee table he created made from mahogany, epoxy resin and bloodwood.
The 15-year-old said it would have taken 15 hours to make and he had been making woodwork for the last 18 months.
“You get to work by yourself and turn something that looks bad into something that looks like that,” he said.
Zac is self taught when it comes to the craft, having learnt by watching YouTube videos. He also runs a Facebook page where he sells chopping boards to raise money for larger projects. He plans to sell the winning coffee table.
