This week, community leaders from a number of other regional areas will be in Tathra to share their experiences.
These include Lismore Chamber of Commerce president Deborah Benhayon reflecting on the Lismore/Northern River Floods of 2017, Blue Mountains Accommodation and Tourism Association executive officer and survivor of the 2013 Blue Mountains Bushfire Michael Sperling, and Steve Pascoe who has 30 years experience in emergency management with the Country Fire Authority and Victorian State Emergency Service.
The three will share their stories and that of their community, answering questions such as what really made a difference for their community to recover and grow?
Business and tourism recovery will be a focus, but the whole Bega Valley is invited to gather to hear these stories of grief and recovery and take strength and lessons from the experience of others.
The discussion signals the start of a larger 12-month project, the Tathra-Sapphire Coast Tourism Resilience Innovation Project, funded by the NSW Office of Emergency Management, and supported by the Tathra Chamber of Commerce and Bega Valley Shire Council.
A Stronger Future, Regional Communities Sharing Experience with Disaster will be on Thursday, November 1 at Tathra Public School, Tathra.
A free barbecue will be available from 5.30pm before presentations start at 6pm, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.
