Members of the Bemboka 7th Light Horse Troop will march together for the first time on November 11 to mark Armistice Day.

The Australian Light Horse were mounted troops with elements of both cavalry and mounted infantry, who served in the Second Boer War and the Great War.

Throughout his life 73-year-old Warren Davis has had a keen interest in both horses and the Great War, so becoming part of a reenactment troop is something which came easily.

“I had been riding horses for many years and I saw a reenactment troop at the Hawkesbury Agricultural Show near Windsor one year," Mr Davis said.

"I thought it looked smart so I joined them.

“It's a hobby, and a man's got to have a hobby,” he said with a laugh.

“We help keep it alive.”

A keen amateur historian, Mr Davis has uncovered stories of family members who tragically died in the war.

“There are some historians who’s accounts of the war I don't put a lot of faith in,' he said.

“Those I do trust believe General Sir John Monash was being offered Field Marshal Douglas Haig's position due to his ability as an engineer, lawyer and a general.”

Haig commanded the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front from late 1915 until the end of the war.

“The British were close to offering Monash the top job. He's one of the heroes of my life," Mr Davis said.

"Monash was still learning, but put his head down and communicated plans through the lines.

"All the troops new what was expected on the day.”

The troop’s march through town will be the first time the 28 mounted troopers and nine dismounted troopers will have marched together.

Each Anzac Day members from the troop march in various small towns across the region.

“This will be our one chance to do this,” Mr Davis said.

The march will begin at 10.40am at Club Bega before finishing at the Bega Soldiers Memorial Gates. The troop will also be training for the day on November 10 at the Bega Showground.
