Bega Chamber of Commerce president Dave Mitchell said the inaugural Bega Buy Local initiative will create an incentive for shoppers to choose local businesses over online purchasing.
“This is a massive initiative, because it’s important for people to spend their money with local businesses," Mr Mitchell said.
The initiative, created by the Bega District News with support from the chamber, will run from November 2-31, and involves 23 businesses offering tickets for money spent in-store.
The winning ticket, drawn December 4, will see a customer take home a Kia Picanto, and Mr Mitchell said he hopes more businesses will become involved next year.
“With so many options for consumers now, we need to remember that it’s local businesses that provide employment to our family and friends, and ensure the long term survival of regional communities,” BDN sales manager Tim Shinnick said.
