It is Australia’s biggest child safety and education day and businesses are also getting involved this Friday, October 26.
Day for Daniel ambassador Melissa Pouliot said students across the region will wear red to show their support as teachers and local police youth liaison officers spend the day to discuss safety with children.
“On the day it is important we focus on school safety talks. South Coast youth liaison officer senior constable Donna-Marie Clarke will be visiting students again this year.”
“They were absolutely enthralled by the talks last year, knowing certain public figures are safe to talk to,” she said.
Day for Daniel ambassador Genevieve Mus’sell said more businesses are getting involved to learn about child safety.
“It has gone from little ones walking home from school to online predators, It is an important reminder for down here because we are somewhat complacent when it comes to things like this.”
“I really think it is so important people are aware of it,” she said.
Ms Mus’sell said it has been amazing the amount of donations received each year and hopes the day continues to grow.
IMB Merimbula branch manager Michelle Milsom was quick to get involved.
“I would love for all businesses to get involved, especially those who don’t have kids it is important to remind them of child safety,” she said.
Ms Milsom will be collecting donations in Merimbula on Friday along with other businesses of the region who are encouraging everyone to wear red, educate and donate.
“Look out for the red bucket brigade walking around the streets on Friday!,” Ms Milsom said.
Businesses can register or donate to the Day for Daniel by visiting the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Website.
