After a devastating first-time ever pullout of the first grade side last season, the club plans to make a fierce comeback. The Tigers intend to put the past behind them through recruiting new committee members, players and inviting past players and supporters to band together to push into the future.
“It’s a crucial time, if anyone is interested in seeing the Tigers play they should attend the meeting to show their support,” past player and life member Sheldon Wykes said.
Sheldon believed it was time for the younger generations to begin to take on committee positions.
“We’re getting older, it would be great to have some young blood come through,” he said.
The revival on the field promised to be strong. The newly-formed first grade team looked promising and Sheldon said he was excited for the Tigers to make their return for the 2019 season.
“We have got a group of young footballers ready for seniors coming through, our best crop in a while,” he said.
“Combined with the return of a few older Tigers we’re positive that we have good quality team – a side to be reckoned with.”
Legendary players returning to the side include Tsui Tui, Bart Thomsen and Tommy Henderson
Sheldon believed in conjunction with players Greg Nicholson and Micheal Wykes the returning players would make great mentors for the younger footballers.
Past players and administrators have come together to create an “Old Tigers Club” in support of the football club. Life member Mike Sheppard said the aim was for “Old Tigers” to become reengaged with the club through reliving old times, getting together socially as well as providing fundraising and moral support to the football club.
“It’s open to all people who have been involved with the Tigers, the idea is to reestablish past friendships and get together on a social basis,” Sheppard said.
Sheldon emphasised they were looking forward to expansion of the club in 2019 and acknowledged 2018 as a successful year with the ladies league tag winning the premiership.
“With the support of a hardworking committee. We’re all in this together, let’s keep it coming for the future,” he said.
