The unique initiative gives high performing restaurant crew and managers the chance to help solve challenging and business-critical briefs for the business.
“I’m really excited to be part of the McDonald’s LEAD program and to get the chance to further develop skills that I’m sure I’ll draw upon throughout my career,” Mr Mason said.
“By pairing up with other restaurant crew and managers from around the country, as well as my mentor, I know I’m sure to learn plenty through this program.”

He was in Sydney in September for the program’s launch and to meet his mentor, a McDonald’s corporate employee who will help him develop deeper insight into the business.
While in Sydney, he also received his first business brief, beginning a process that will see him apply the skills and knowledge he has accrued in the Bega restaurant as he helps McDonald’s Australia solve a current business challenge.
“James is well-deserving of this opportunity and was nominated due to his outstanding contribution to the running of my restaurant,” Mike Goodluck, licensee of McDonald’s Bega, said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how James assists McDonald’s to make meaningful and positive change that ultimately helps enhance the great experience we strive to offer each and every customer.”
In its inaugural year, the LEAD initiative will be an annual program open to McDonald’s restaurant employees across Australia.
“The LEAD Program is designed to help us continue to bring opportunities to our crew and managers who over the last year have continued to excel and always bring with them an appetite for learning and success,” Jennifer St Ledger, chief people officer of McDonald’s Australia, said.
