Kindergarten teacher at the school Michelle Bartlett said the aim of the Smooth Start program was to get new pupils familiar with the school setting.
“They get to know the teachers so are a bit more comfortable when they start school in the new year,” she said.
“It makes them slightly more settled as it’s not a completely new environment.”
When the children visit school, they are introduced to activities similar to what would be run in the first term of school such as songs, nursery rhymes, crafts, alphabet games, drawing and reading.
“We want to get them here to show them school can be fun,” Ms Bartlett said.
This year, teachers had visited children at several preschools in Bega to meet the newcomers in their environment.
Ms Bartlett said the teachers met the future pupils ahead of when they started in school to identify any needs they might have.
One current Kindergarten pupils at the school who went through Smooth Start, Maharleya, said she liked that she knew her teacher before she started school.
She said starting at school was scary, but knowing her teacher made it less so.
Smooth Start will be held at the school on November 5, 12, 19, 26 and December 3.
Session times will be held each day at 9.15am, 11.15am and 1.15pm. For more information and to book call 6492 1280.
