On the weekend, due to severe weather conditions the fire flared up again and destroyed another house – which was in addition to the three houses lost on Desert Creek Rd when it first started.
By Tuesday, September 18, it had covered over 18.500ha with an Rural Fire Service spokesperson saying it continued to burn in remote areas.
They said the firefighting effort on the day involved over 100 personnel, 60 trucks, 16 dozers, 11 helicopters, five fire bombing fixed wings and one large air tanker.
While there were no immediate threats to properties, firefighters remained on the scene to provide property protection if needed.
The RFS spokesperson said the weather forecast for Tuesday involved strengthening winds and dry air which meant there was a very high fire danger.
They said the conditions were expected to ease later in the week.
No more fire permits will be issued until further notice, the RFS spokesperson said.
A community meeting about the fire will be held at Bemboka Hall from 6pm on Tuesday, September 18 to provide an overview and updates.
