Tom O’Meara kicked the goal just seconds before the final siren, sending the Bermagui bench into an elated frenzy.
The Panthers jumped on the Breakers early, kicking the first two goals of the match to build a handy lead.
Bermagui were still in the contest, but a number of miscues both with the ball and without kept them from attaining any fluency in their play.
Pambula would keep the Breakers goalless in the first quarter, as they led 2.1 (13) to 0.3 (3) at quarter time.
The Breakers switched on in the second quarter, but struggled to hit the scoreboard against a stout Panthers’ defence.
Inaccuracy also hurt Bermagui, who kicked five behinds before their first goal midway through the term. Another late goal to the Breakers capped off a great quarter, as they kept Pambula scoreless for the term to lead by five points at the main break.
The third quarter was a mirror image of the second, as the Panthers jumped on top in the midfield and turned that into territorial dominance.
The Panthers couldn’t properly capitalise on their fantastic quarter through, kicking 2.8 to lead by just nine points at the final change.
Pambula got the perfect start to the final quarter, as star player Will Seach kicked a goal inside the first 60 seconds.
Bermagui hit back with a great passage of play from half back, trimming the deficit back to nine points with less than 12 minutes to go.
The match stayed tight until the final two minutes, when the Breakers were awarded a free kick for a deliberate rushed behind. The Breakers converted to trail by a point with 30 seconds to go.
Further drama ensued at the subsequent centre bounce, as the Panthers were penalised for having too many players inside the centre square.
The Breakers went forward from the free kick, and Campbell Moresi scrambled them inside 50.
Tom O’Meara popped up to win a contested ball, and snapped truly from 25 metres out to seal a memorable victory.
The Panthers were stunned after the final siren, with tears coming from players and fans alike as they were left to wonder what may have been.
