The night started off with this year’s leading B grade team, the Loose Screws, taking on the Honey Badgers.
The Honey Badgers showed up in fine form with faces painted ready to play. The match was a high quality game. “The match up of Thomas Kemp (Honey Badgers) and Mitch Kirby (Loose Screws) was awesome to watch, especially their powerful serves,” a spokesman said. The match was eventually won by the Loose Screws in three close sets. Mitch Kirby was awarded a well-deserved man of the match.
The A grade grand final was also a spectacle with last year’s champions The Avengers taking on up and comers Donaldo Ducks.
The Donaldo Ducks were missing their captain, but were still determined to take home the win, but The Avengers took out the first set in a close battle.
In the second set the Donaldo ducks had regrouped and tied the game at one set each. The third and fourth sets were also close games with multiple time outs and huge rallies. The Avengers came away victorious for their second consecutive year with Harry Brice getting man of the match.
During late October, Bega Volleyball will be fielding a mixed team comprising both A and B grade to contest the Spring edition of the Canberra Cup. The team roster has already been filled but any other interested players can register individually directly with the organisers – details are on Facebook.
