Ms Buck is dealing with a significant health issue at the moment and made the decision to step back from penning her weekly Annagram column in order to focus on her treatment and getting well.
Readers over the years will be familiar with the regular column and its stories of family life, often sprinkled with a seasonal twist, and the ever-present light-hearted digs at the man of the house (Moth).
The vividly written column had its beginnings in 1988.
The editor at the time, Anna Glover, decided she wanted something light for the BDN’s Friday readership, entrusting the help of Ms Buck and her clever sense of storytelling.
The column became extremely popular with readers and even won the EC Sommerlad Memorial Award for Journalism twice – in 1989-90 and again in 1992.
As part of the Bega District News’s special 150th souvenir edition in 2015, Ms Buck said she had no idea the popularity of Annagram would see it continue to be written each week for 30 years.
As well as her writing, Ms Buck is also well known in the district for her art.
Spiral Gallery is currently featuring an exhibition of Ms Buck’s paintings and drawings, inspired by her love for the Bega River where she walks daily. The exhibition runs to September 26.
From the editor and on behalf of all staff, past and present, of the Bega District News, we wish Anna all the very best with her recovery.
