Dimitri Ashkanazy to delight Wolumla audience

The Sapphire Coast Music Society is delighted to have a wonderful performance for clarinet and piano coming up this month.

On Sunday, September 16, the society is pleased to host Dimitri Ashkanazy (clarinet), Leigh Harrold (piano) and Thomas Azoury (clarinet) at the Wolumla Hall for a concert.

The exciting and varied program will feature music by Mendelssohn and Debussy among others.

Ashkanazy, who is making his fourth visit to the Bega Valley, has performed widely, both as a soloist and chamber musician.

On tour, he has appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Hollywood Bowl with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and in Japan with the Japan Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony and Mito Chamber Orchestras.

Pianist Harrold has performed extensively throughout Europe, North America, Africa and Australia as both soloist and chamber musician, including concerts at Australia House in London, the Royal Academy of Music, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Harare International Festival of Arts, and concerto engagements with many Australian orchestras.

Azoury enjoys a varied portfolio of orchestral, chamber and solo musical engagements, and has performed with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra and Canberra International Music Festival.

He has also been a two time finalist in the Sydney Eisteddfod’s Musica Viva Chamber Music Competitions, and Doctor’s Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship, as well as having participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camp and the Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute in Hobart.

Their performance for the Sapphire Coast Music Society will be held on Sunday, September 16, at 2.30pm at Wolumla Hall, Wolumla.

Tickets can be purchased at Magpie Music (Bega), Brief Affairs Lingerie Boutique (Merimbula), Hair Lamartine (Eden) or at the door. The ticket price includes an extensive afternoon tea.
