A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the new limit will soon be enforced on the 15.5km stretch from west of the Princes Hwy at Cobargo to the intersection with Wallaga Lake Rd at Bermagui.
“A review of the existing 100kmh speed limit on Cobargo Bermagui Road has revealed conditions that do not align with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines,” the spokesperson said.
“The investigation also found this section of road has a poor crash history with a casualty rate about 20 times above the typical rate for a rural non classified road in NSW.
“Road safety is a high priority for Roads and Maritime and as a result of a high number of crashes along the length, will be installing an 80kmh speed limit to ensure the safest possible conditions for all road users.
“Signs will be progressively installed to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions, but road users are asked to keep an eye out for the changes and follow the direction of all signs.”
