Tathra finished on top after Sectional play defeating Wenty Leagues, Ramsgate RSL and Maitland Park. In the semi finals
Tathra defeated Lawson 61-41 and Cabra Vale Diggers defeated Urunga 70-54 to reach the grand final.
The final was played on a perfect 17 second green, but strong winds made play difficult.
John Chalker's side got off to a flyer and maintained the pressure to run out 34-7 winners with the other two Tathra rinks struggling to stay in touch. John Black's rink picked up a crucial four shots on the final end to lose 22-16. Tathra were leading by 10 shots with three ends to play on Lynton Riddell's rink and his team held their composure to finally go down 23-12 with the final overall score being Tathra 62, Cabra Vale Diggers 52.
The team consisted John Chalker, Phil Burns, Rob McCudden, Deane Payne, John Black, Dylan Cuthbert, Woody Lawler, Terry Wilson, Lynton Riddell, Hedley Waugh, Paul McGrath, Luke Tierney and Gerry Lay.
Tathra were presented with their State pins and Pennant flag by former Australian reps Rex Johnston and Cameron Curtis.
However, the club isn’t finished with state finals yet as the club will compete in State Fours and State Triples, while Phil Burns represents in the State Senior Singles in September.
Also representing the club will be Dylan Cuthbert and Bruce Tate in the State Champion of Champion Pairs at Ballina from October 1.
