“Because they’re just awesome!” Mumbulla School’s Zosha Fitzmaurice said.
“You just get to hear stories and it takes you out of this world and into another one.
“I started reading little books in Kindy then getting bigger books the older I got.”
For her school’s Book Week parade on Wednesday, the Year 6 pupil dressed as the character Arwen from Lord Of The Rings.
Her classmate Taylor Williamson, who dressed as Red Riding Hood from Sisters Grimm, said the reason she loved books was because they could be about anything.
“They’re not like a movie where you’re shown what the person looks like, you get to read the description in the book to create someone,” she said.
Mumbulla School librarian Nick Whittock said the main event for the school during Book Week was a parade attended by school parents where children dressed up as characters from books.
He said Book Week provided a chance for children to engage with books.
