Officials from the Bega tennis courts have just finished the installations of all new LED light poles.
Upgrades across all seven courts cost over $57,000 to install, but organisers said it would give all players, especially those competing as part of the Thursday night competitions a much better view of the ball.
The upgrades have also been completed just in time for the Tulgeen Group’s regular Thursday night competition rounds.
In the leadup to the competition, the club will be conducting trial games this Thursday at 6.30 pm and again on Thursday 30th.
Everyone is invited to head along and join in the fun with the night competition running over about 10 weeks as well as a finals series.
However, a spokesman for the club said anyone who might have played before and had trouble with vision should definitely have another go.
“For all those who thought they could not see the ball, then come along to the trials on Thursday and see what you think of the lighting,” the spokesman said.
The competition proper will launch from the first Thursday in September.
Anne Moore and her assistants will organise the competition and it is hoped that they will again have eight teams of four players.
Anne can be contacted on mobile 0411 281 434, email annem1999@yahoo.com and the Facebook site Bega Thursday Night Tennis.
The club is also looking at e-bookings and electronic locks for the courts – that are connected automatically to the lighting system.
