The 2019 Premier's Teacher Scholarships recognises teachers who are investigating effects of different pedagogy and curriculum delivery on student achievement in secondary schools.
The scholarships were open to teachers in NSW government and non-government schools, TAFE NSW campuses/colleges and early childhood centres.
The award reception was hosted by premier Gladys Berejiklian and minister for education Rob Stokes at The Mint in Sydney on August, 14.
Twenty scholarships of either $10,000 or $15,000 were awarded for a five-week study tour within Australia or overseas.
Two Lumen Christi teachers were selected out of more than 50,000 teacher’s submissions of NSW.
Ms Evans was awarded the Premier's Copyright Agency Creativity across the Curriculum Scholarship.
This $15,000 award is for study in any curriculum area related to creativity and innovation.
Ms Evans will focus on developing the Technologies Curriculum, in particular traditional and emerging textiles technologies and STEM teaching. She will visit Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam to look at traditional textiles skills before visiting the UK and Europe to look at innovation in textiles.
Mr Giles received the $15,000 Premier's Curriculum Transition Scholarship which was open to principals, assistant principals and teachers currently teaching in NSW schools.
Mr Giles study tour will look at developing structures and pedagogies that will support students as they enter secondary schools.
His aim is to develop strong local links while making global connections. He believes children in rural areas should experience a strong sense of belonging at school without any feelings toward being removed from experiences of students in metro areas.
Also achieving excellence is another Lumen Christi teacher Wendy Mockler who has recently been awarded with a Highly Accomplished Teacher status.
Ms Mockler is the first to receive a Highly Accomplished Teacher status in a NSW school within the Canberra-Goulbourn archdiocese.
