A joint initiative between local company 2pi Software and Amazon Web Services, the competition drew a visit to Bega by AWS Educate’s Puay San Ng.
“Directly, 12 students are participating and from this a winning team three will be selected to present at the AWS Public Sector summit in Canberra in September,” 2pi Software’s Liam O'Duibhir said.
“It is a great experience for young technology-minded people from the Bega Valley, and possibly a real pointer for their future careers in cloud-based systems.
“In some respects the whole community benefits because we are introducing skills for which there is global demand.
“If people in the Bega Valley can become proficient in voice recognition and artificial intelligence capabilities, then we have the capacity to build systems and solutions on a commercial basis and create highly prized and well paying jobs.”
Mr O'Duibhir said visitors to the Bega Valley, like Ms Ng, are surprised by the “energy and vitality” of the community.
“It is only when they visit and meet our highly intelligent and highly engaged young people that they can see how vibrant and deeply motivated our community is,” he said.
“We will encourage more people from Canberra and further afield to visit and see the transformative initiatives that are underway in Bega, as represented by new developments such as the recently announced government funded Bega Innovation Hub.”
