According to data from the 2016 Census, around 115,000 people in Australia are without a safe and secure place to live, and Friday’s Street Smart Cafe Smart initiative aims to held reduce that number.
Eight businesses in the Bega Valley will take part on August 3, by donating a dollar from every coffee sold, which will be put towards local projects.
“Homelessness seems to be an issue around here, especially since the Tathra fires, which is why we're happy to be involved,” Nook Tea and Espresso Bar’s Brent Morris said.
“There was a lady I would see sleeping near the park every night, so everything we can do to get people out of a bad situation is a good thing.”
The Reaching Out Foundation and Social Justice Advocates Of The Sapphire Coast have teamed up with Mission Australia in previous years to purchase two caravans for residents in need of emergency accommodation via the initiative.
