House Rules may have finished, but one spooky resident of Toad Heffernan and Mandy Stone’s Candelo home is not going anywhere.
Speaking on Tuesday, Toad said there is a ghost that lives in his 150-year-old run-down former inn who is called Mrs Mitchell.
“She’s an old lady that lived and died in the house,” he said.
“Her granddaughter lives in Candelo and she is in her 80s, so she’s pretty old.
“She played a bit of havoc for the boys when we were living there a few years ago.”
Apparently Mrs Mitchell used to get up to mischief like knock candles over and open doors.
“It’s pretty full on,” Toad said.
“You’ve got to see it to believe it!
“But she’s lovely and I think she loves what they’ve done to the house because she’s been very well-behaved.”
The House Rules teams working on the house in Candelo were warned about Mrs Mitchell, who made herself known during the filming of the series.
In an episode broadcast for Channel Seven’s show in June, mother and daughter team Kim and Michelle of Tweed Heads are standing in a room when Michelle says she believes something has blown in her ear.
“I don’t even know how to explain it. Somebody blew in my ear, I turned around and nobody was there,” she said in the program.
“And then all of a sudden I just felt this sense of emotion come over me.”
Queenslander Mel, who worked with her husband Dave, appeared to have witnessed one of the ghost’s door-closing tricks. Western Australia’s Chiara, who teamed up with partner David, said “more than anything I just hope that we don’t upset Mrs Mitchell”.
On Monday, it was announced Toad and Mandy had come first in House Rules, scoring 24/30 from the judges for their final makeover, just one point ahead of Mel and Dave.
