One of the organisers of the fundraiser, who did not wish to be named, said the RFS worked all night to save her Reedy Swamp property during the bushfire in the region on March 18.

But she said the fire fighters had nowhere to go or rest, no chairs to sit on and no fridge to go back to where they could get a cold drink.

“We heard this and thought that’s not good enough,” she said. 

Around 50 residents from the Reedy Swamp community turned up at the Bega Country Club on July 14 to raise money for the service. There was music, a raffle draw, games and people brought a plate to share. 

A donation of $200 had previously been given to the two organisers, which enabled them to buy fold out chairs for the Tarraganda RFS and hand them over on the night. 

The $1100 raised at the event was handed to the RFS for them to put towards purchasing a fridge for their truck. 

“We were pretty stoked we got two out of the three things they asked for,” one of the organisers said. 

“The only thing we didn’t mange to raise enough money for was lockers, they wanted lockers for the shed.

“It worked out to be a great community event.” 

She said they were thinking about making the fundraiser an annual event.
