Earlier this year, the auxiliary received a $40,000 grant from the Commonwealth Bank’s Bega, Narooma, Eden and Merimbula branches to go towards providing support and equipment for the oncology, children’s and maternity wards at the hospital.
The auxiliary used the funds to purchase $1300 worth of tables and chairs so patients had an area to rest and enjoy the view of the grounds around the facility.
“Patients have been coming out to enjoy the area,” nurse unit manager oncology Marg Glass said.
When asked why the auxiliary thought it was important to purchase the furniture for the hospital, auxiliary president Anne Sheedy said “that’s our job”.
“Our aim is to provide comfort for the patients of the hospital,” she said.
Through its own fundraising, the auxiliary also recently purchased an electric trauma trolley for $10,890 for the hospital’s ED unit.
