Both junior outfits were set for Friday night games, but the 16s match scheduled to run under lights at Eden did not go ahead due to an unfortunate forfeit by the Mallacoota roster.
This left only two Tathra teams in action this weekend.
The Tathra Under 12’s played Merimbula White in Merimbula under lights on Friday night. Tathra were ‘hammered’ by the Merimbula White team who ran away with the game that finished 10-0.
This loss sees Merimbula White overtake Tathra Under 12’s on the ladder with both teams chasing leaders Bega. Tathra next face Merimbula Green in Round 10 on Sunday 15th July at home in Tathra.
Tathra’s reserve grade team played the Bega White Devils at Bega’s George Griffin Oval on Sunday.
Officials said it was a see-sawing game of mixed fortunes with the score locked at 0-0 at the break.
A spokesman for United said it was down to strong defensive efforts from both teams providing frustration to their opponents.
“However, Tathra struck early in the second half with Mitch Kirby scoring a great first-time strike after Wilfran Ramirez Delgado delivered a lovely cross from the left,” the spokesman said.
Soon after, Tathra doubled the lead when Sam Collins found the top right corner with a fine long-range shot.
Halfway through the second half, a lapse in concentration and some poor defending from Tathra, then allowed the Bega team to score three times in five minutes, with Bega forward Finlay Geoghegan firing a hat-trick.
Tathra then steadied and found a way back 10 minutes from full-time when Jack Smith won a penalty that he then scored, blasting the ball into the roof of the net to level up the scores at 3-3.
Tathra sensed the momentum shift and searched for a winner but finished with a hard-earned draw.
Other rounds included a 2-1 win to Bega over Wolumla in first grade.
Bemboka carded a 1-0 win over Eden in reserves, while Wolumla defeated Bega Red 2-1.
The Bemboka ladies were short and had to forfeit to Eden, while Wolumla carded a 10-0 win over Bega.
The Far South Coast Football Association will go to a general bye this weekend, but there are two matches to be played in a special extra round.
The Tathra first grade outfit will be in action when they take on the Pambula Penguins in Pambula.
The Bega Devils first grade outfit will also be in action when they host the Merimbula Grasshoppers at George Griffin Oval at 2pm.
