Meanwhile, the Bega Devils carded a 5-1 win over the Penguins in their clash.
All of Tathra’s teams headed to Merimbula’s Berrambool Oval in the blustery weekend conditions to face the Grasshoppers.
The club’s first grade efforts were rewarded with a much-needed first win of the season.
In what coach Jack Shannon described as a very good match where Tathra were “absolute winners all over the park” as the “defence was resolute and the midfield worked like mad to shut Merimbula down”.
Tathra mounted incredible pressure in the first half, forcing an own goal from the Grasshoppers.
Then in the second half, Sam Collins score off a chest-volley into the bottom corner to lead 2-0 with 10 minutes to play.
Merimbula score one goal in reply, but Tathra rallied the defence to break through for a start to positive results.
Meanwhile at Bega, the Devils’ pace proved to be a deciding factor over the Pambula Penguins.
A spokesman for the club said the Bega outfit were at full strength except for keeper Harrison Baker, who was covered by 16-year-old Finlay Geoghegan for his first senior outing.
“We tried some new formations in the second half, but everything went to plan, we led 3-0 at half-time,” the spokesman said..
Bega coach Jorden Stafford scored the opener, before Clancy Morrison and Ross Jones backed up with goals of their own as the Devils surged ahead through their pace in the middle and edges.
The Penguins countered with a single goal early in the second half and the spokesman said Paul Menke had been a standout for the visitors.
However, Bega were not done scoring and Sam Finlay laid on two further goals in the second half to lock in a good scorecard.
In other grades, the She-Devils posted their third on the trot, winning 1-0 over the Mallacoota Blues.
And in a home derby, the Bega Red side downed the Devils White outfit 2-0.
Tathra’s reserves struggled in their clash against Merimbula, trailing 3-0 at the break before slumping to an 8-0 loss.
Earlier, Tathra had won the 16s and the under 12s.
The 16s carded a 4-1 win with goals to Marley McCabe, Ed Blewett and Jakome Roberts-Charlton.
The 12s carded a 3-2 win. Coach Dan Bakker said that “lots of new skills came out of the Tathra team’s efforts” and “both teams were very hungry to take on tackles.”
Tathra are at home to Wolumlla on Sunday, while the Devils head to Pambula.
