Refurbishments for the historic Murrah Hall and Bega’s Spiral Gallery have been granted $88,000 through the NSW government’s Regional Cultural Fund.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance announced the grant on Friday, with the Bega Valley Shire Council successfully securing the funding as part of the first round of the $100million RCF.
Mr Constance said the Murrah Metamorphosis ($70,000) aimed to increase the accessibility, viability and cultural reach of the historic Murrah Hall by equipping it with a portable public address system and digital lighting for live music and theatre.
The Spiral Gallery project ($18,000) will include renovations and refurbishments to improve the exhibition, kitchen, office and collection spaces which will improve overall exhibition standards, enable effective double hanging of artworks, and shorten installation time.
“This is a fabulous outcome for the Bega Valley, and I know these projects will bring a great deal of joy to the people attending these venues,” Mr Constance said.
“The Regional Cultural Fund is all about supporting projects – whether they be big or small – that will enhance the cultural richness and vibrancy of our regional communities.”
Bega Valley Shire Mayor Kristy McBain thanked the NSW government for its continued support of cultural precincts in regional areas.
“This funding will see two great facilities in the Bega Valley upgraded to ensure our local artists have fantastic facilities to showcase their talent,” Cr McBain said.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said he was pleased to see such a vast array of exciting projects funded as part of round one of the new arts-specific fund.
“Having grown up and raised a family in a regional area, I know our regional towns and cities can have so much to offer in the arts and culture space,” Mr Barilaro said.
“I congratulate the council on the successful outcome of their grant application, and for putting forward a project that will enhance the cultural infrastructure of the entire region,” Mr Barilaro said.
Applications will soon be invited for the next round of funding through the scheme.
