The former resident of Pambula Beach kicked off his tour in Byron Bay on June 7.

He woke up that same morning to see his new single The Hills Have Eyes featured above singer/songwriter’s Ziggy Alberts, George Ezra and Xavier Rudd. 

“It was a nice surprise to see it pop up at number one,” he said.

“It is really nice to be recognised alongside some of the other people in those charts.”

Coincidentally, Biilmann bumped into surfy singer/songwriter Ziggy Alberts just last week.

“It was funny because I was talking with my mate, joking about some big names we might bump into up here in Byron,” Biilmann said.

Biilmann and Alberts got chatting in the street.

“We have heaps of mutual friends and it was pretty cool to meet him, he is a top bloke,” Biilmann said. 

Matt Damon was another high profile fellow that caught Biilmann’s eye while on tour. He said jokingly the only person he hasn’t seen so far is Chris Hemsworth. “We are on the lookout for him,” he said. 

Next on the tour agenda for Biilmann is a Brisbane performance before he heads back down for an essential performance at Wolumla Pub on June, 22.

His solo appearance will be a more intimate scene featuring a percussive flare added to his bluesy rock acoustic set.

He is known for his emotional music punch, which was seen recently on stage at the Band Together festival in Tathra, where he performed with his brother to a crowd of 4000.

For that performance, Biilmann said his bass guitar player was out of action. He ran his guitar to a separate amp, working his loop pedals to “fatten up the songs like a bass player would”.

“Even though it wasn't quite the same, it worked out really well, I was really happy,” he said.

Now based in Canberra, Biilmann has established a formidable reputation for himself among local and national touring circles, having shared stages with the likes of Tash Sultana, Bobby Alu, Ian Moss, Bootleg Rascal and more over the years. 

The Hills Have Eyes is another strong step forward and a great pointer of a new direction for Biilmann.

As a follow up release from his 2017 Streams record, Hills Have Eyes is full of rich melody, well crafted guitar tone and a vocal impression that simply shines.

“The Hills Have Eyes is a kick in a new direction from me, I wanted to do something that had the elements with what make me who I am as an artist with a new twist.

“It’s sure to come as a bit of a surprise, but is still a very ‘Jack Biilmann’ sounding song,” he said.
