A man has been accused of murdering his female housemate as NSW Police continue to search for the 28-year-old Chinese woman's body.

Shuo Dong, 19, has been charged with murdering Qi Yu, who vanished from their Campsie share house in the city's southwest more than four days ago.

Detectives are yet to find her body.

Dong did not appear in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday and bail was formally refused by magistrate Mark Richardson.

Ms Yu was last seen by friends at the share house on Friday evening and had made contact with her family in China about 7.15pm that day.

She was reported missing on Saturday and police found her white Toyota Corolla in Burwood, four kilometres away.

Detectives remain in the area questioning neighbours in the hope they will uncover the 28-year-old's body.

Retired school teacher and neighbour Rhonda Hall said about five people shared the three-bedroom townhouse, and although she had never seen Ms Yu or Dong together, both were friendly.

Dong's case is next scheduled for mention in Burwood Local Court on July 9.
