Mr Horne, 54, died in hospital on Sunday, June 3, after he was allegedly attacked by a 20-year-old man in Bega during a carjacking on the Friday night.
The Tura Beach local has been fondly remembered by many in the Bega Valley community as well as in his former home town of Holbrook, as “one of the nicest people imaginable”. Many of his family, friends and colleagues are expected to attend Saturday’s service and funeral.
Representatives from NSW Police will also be in attendance to pay their respects to the former Senior Constable with Bega Highway Patrol, who retired from the force in 2009.
He is survived by his wife Mel and adult son Tom.
The memorial service is open to the public and will take place in the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre, Zingel Place, Bega, from 11am on Saturday, June 16.
