About 4000 people came together on Saturday to celebrate as a community and raised over $200,000 for those affected by the Tathra bushfire on March 18.
The Sapphire Coast Turf Club was packed for the Band Together concert, with a huge list of musicians such as Hoodoo Gurus, 1927, The Badloves, Ol’ 55, Daniel Champagne and The Figmentz donating their time for the charity event.
“It was massive, it was just so big,” event coordinator Darren Jones said.
“It even blew our expectations out of the water.
“People had a great time and the feedback has been unbelievable.”
Speaking on Monday, he said the finally tally from the event had not yet been finalised, but they were on their way towards their aim of $250,000.
Aside from sold out tickets the money also came from the turf club which donated its drink and food sales, bucket runs, as well as from a major raffle won by Eden’s Michelle Milsom.
“Her sister bought her a raffle ticket and didn’t tell her! So she was doubly shocked,” Mr Jones said.
As the winner, Ms Milsom will get to choose a camper, car or boat, but Mr Jones said she had not made up her mind which one yet.
He had spoken to the bands such as Hoodoo Gurus and The Badloves since the event and said they were very appreciative of the response they received on the night.
“They were blown away by the hospitality and community feel on the South Coast.
“They said it was a beautiful part of the world and really want to come back.”
If you were a fan of the concert, fear not because it may return.
“The idea of a Band Together Two is already being talked about,” Mr Jones said.
“We could establish an ongoing emergency disaster relief fund so in the future if a major incident happens, like the Tathra bushfires, there’s already money available to assist families.
“We will speak further on that during the year.”
Mr Jones wanted to thank all the sponsors of the event as well as the volunteers.
“This event couldn’t happen without volunteers doing stuff that is completely laborious and boring; those guys are amazing,” he said.
