That is according to organiser Lenna Pearce, who said the event had first been started 19 years ago.
It was on once again on Friday at the Brogo Hall with Ms Pearce hoping to beat last year’s tally of over $2000.
Aside from a plethora of food donated there were arts and craft stalls as well as a wood raffle, which by 11am on the day had already raised over $600.
The team was growing with a few new people volunteering their time to help out on the day.
“They just like to come and help, they say it’s for a good cause,” Ms Pearce said.
Two of the people crowding in the hall, who said they knew many people affected by cancer, were Aileen Jamieson and Marlene Shipton of Bega.
“We’ve been coming for years, we just enjoy the camaraderie,” Ms Shipton said.
Ms Jamieson said the Cancer Council was a worthy foundation to raise money before because it helped prevent cancer.
“Prevention is better than the cure,” she said.
