You can create artworks in any medium for the exhibition, they can be 2D or 3D, the only requirement is they must be the same size as an A6 piece of paper – the same as a postcard.
So what advice does joint curator Rachel Annabel have for someone considering entering for the firs time?
“Do it, do it, do it,” she said.
“It’s fun. It is daunting to exhibit, but it’s nicer to exhibit in company.”
This is the seventh year the exhibition is run and she hopes to beat the 580 entries handed in last year.
“It’s just turned out to be really popular because it fits in with the ethos of the Spiral Gallery as a community gallery,” Ms Annabel said.
“I think it appeals to people as it’s such a small size and such a general category, it’s not restricted to abstract, watercolours or clay, for example.”
She said now the cold season is starting it was perfect weather to be sitting around making postcards around a fireplace.
The special category this year is iconic Australiana, with Ms Annabel providing an example of creating a postcard of the Sydney Harbour Bridge made from drinking straws.
“Your imagination is limitless, really,” she said.
