The 3500 tickets were sold out as of 6pm on Wednesday with the majority going to locals, but also people planning to come down for the event from as far away as the Gold Coast.
The remainder of the event’s target will be raised from a major raffle where the winner gets to pick a car, camper or boat, as well as merchandise on sale, bucket runs that will be collecting donations from the crowd and the profits from the bar and food sales made by the Sapphire Coast Turf Club.
The stellar line-up for the event includes heavy weights Hoodoo Gurus, The Badloves and 1927 alongside locally-grown talents such as Daniel Champagne, Corey Legge, The Figmentz, Erin McMahon, Angus Rump and the Chips, and Melanie Horsnell.
Event coordinator Darren Jones has been blown away by the scale of the response to the fundraiser, from the musicians who will donate their time to the show and the number of people who have bought tickets, to the sponsors and all of those who have donated time and energy to put it together which he said are too many to list but he could not thank enough.
It has come a long way from an idea that was raised in a conversation between him and a friend.
“It just took off like nothing else,” Mr Jones said.
“A good thing for the area is how it’s attracting a lot of visitors, which will benefit the whole region.
“Through tragedy you gain strength. We need to look at the positives and grow from it, as tragic as it was.”
While he was not personally affected by the March 18 fires, he has finished 24 years in the police force and has worked in major bushfires before.
“I know what those people went through and I know how hard the emergency services would have worked to save them all,” he said.
Mr Jones was apologetic towards those who had missed out on purchasing a ticket, saying his “hands are tied” and police and venue requirements meant no more could be sold.
Band Together will be held from 12pm on May 26 at the Sapphire Coast Turf Club, 1695 Sapphire Coast Drive.
