Twenty-one students from Sapphire Coast Anglican College and Bega High School will be part of a series of workshops during the day.

The event is being hosted by UN Youth ACT, whose membership now includes former SCAC student and 2016 school captain Madeleine Gordon.

Since starting university in the capital, Ms Gordon – who was also the 2017 Bega Chamber of Commerce Young Person of the Year – became involved in UN Youth ACT and said she now wants to bring some of that experience back home.

Ms Gordon said the theme for this year’s student summit is “International Conflict and Crisis Response”.

The summit comprises workshops concerned with ideas of sovereignty, a state's responsibility to protect, the causes of crises, and crisis management.  Ms Gordon said interaction will be facilitated through debates, mock negotiations and crisis response scenarios.

“We aim for students to come away from the summit with a greater understanding of the international environment and to have developed their own opinions on world matters,” she said.
