Now in the fourth year, Sydney Writers’ Festival artistic director Michaela McGuire said the live and local streams across Australia continue to grow.
“We had 27 locations involved last year, and now we have 37 this year,” she said.
“The rationale behind live and local is to open up the festival to as many people as possible and share the experience outside of Sydney.”
The theme of SWF 2018 is ‘power’, and a number of speakers, including Jane Harper, Peter Greste and Gareth Evans, will explore the many avenues of the topic. Panels will also be streamed to the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre.
Ms McGuire said the live and local event will bring communities closer to the event.
“The stream is not a passive experience experience, the audience can interact with the speakers in real time, there is immediate engagement,” she said.
“Reading is usually a solitary act, but this builds a community, a conversation around it.”
All events are free and can be booked online.
