Following training on Thursday night, April 19, the club officially passed along the proceeds of a recent fundraiser to Bega Valley Shire Mayor Kristy McBain.
The event on April 7 comprising raffle prizes and auctions raised $38,000, which has now been added to the Mayoral Appeal Fund raising money to support the people directly affected by the March 18 bushfire.
David Howard from the Tathra Sea Eagles said the fundraising night was “huge...an amazing effort”.
Items donated to the fundraiser included signed sports memorabilia from across a number of codes, vouchers for restaurants, spas, accommodation, fishing charters and skydiving, as well as artworks and fishing equipment – over $20,000 worth of prizes in total.

Mayoral Appeal keeps climbing
At the time of writing, the Mayoral Appeal Fund for bushfire relief has reached $809,000, but it’s believed this doesn’t yet include the $106,000 raised by the weekend’s East Coast Radio radiothon.
Fund rules published on the BVSC website state the independent panel overseeing the fund, led by the mayor, will ensure all money donated is used solely on assisting residents who have suffered as a result of the fires.
It states all funds received will either be:
- allocated by council directly to those residents adversely affected by the bushfires via specific grant or program;
- contributed to a community group providing a support service/disaster recovery activity; or
- donated to Tathra-based Australian charities who will manage the distribution of donated monies to victims of the bushfires on behalf of Bega Valley Shire Council.
The rules specifically state the council will not use any funds donated for any administration or other non-charitable purposes.
Donations are tax deductible and can be made via:
- Electronic bank transfer: BSB 012525, Account 837535154;
- In person at ANZ Bega branch;
- Credit card over the phone, call 02 6499 2345 (between 9am-4.30pm).
