A large contingent of sapphire coast runners attended the National Running Festival in Canberra over the weekend. In sunny, but very windy conditions.
Four runners completed the 10km course on Saturday, while in the cold and windy conditions on Sunday, a further six runners took on the half marathon course (21km), one the marathon (42km), and one the ultra marathon (50km) with several achieving personal best times despite the difficult conditions.
Bryce and Pennie Strachan from Tura Beach and Glenn Edmonds and Cath Griffin from Bega all took on the 10km run.
Chloe Bourke and Tammy Edmonds from Bega, Gus Lamb and Peter Dickson from Merimbula, Tanja Hoogenboom from Lochiel and Richard Newell from Tura all completed the half marathon.
Meanwhile, former coastie Jason Miller ran the marathon and Bega’s Kyle Bourke took on the ultra-marathon – where club officials said a miscommunication on course saw him also run an extra six kilometres on the day.
A week earlier the mother and daughter duo of Helma Luimes and Petra McArthur took part in the Canberra Walking festival where they completed 42km on Saturday and backed up for a further 26km on Sunday.
Officials said it was absolutely massive to cover that much ground in one weekend.
There were even more events in April and capped off the wonderful “walk for a reason” event in March.
