Saturday will mark the first rugby league game for the Tathra club since 2015 after an off-season push to reform the maroon and white club.
“It’s just good to see footy back here,” Club president Peter Finucane said.
The club has experienced some “highs and lows” meeting a player-number deadline to reform before almost missing the competition after a grading session cut some players from the list.
“We lost a few that were deemed too good for reserves, but we've re-signed quite a few young blokes and we're quite keen to get on the padock,” Mr Finucane said.
However, Mr Finucane praised the work of Clay Child, who would take on the coaching role in his return to the Maroon jersey.
“It’s good to have him back in the colours, his old man played for the Sea Eagles too, but he’s the man coaching and everything,” he said.
Scott Orr is also one of the players back in the strip, while the trio of Jim Price, Ben Crowley and Josh Finucane would lay a good foundation as under 18s premiership winners with the club.
Meanwhile, he said parts of the club were being forged anew with the women’s team now to be dubbed the Tathra Phoenixes.
“We renamed them because they’ve emerged from the fires.”
However, unfortunately there is a bit of a scheduling conflict for Saturday afternoon and the team could miss its opening round with a referee shortage on Sunday.
The reserve grade Eagles will play the Bulldogs at Pambula at 4pm on Saturday.
