BRAWL working bee
It's that time again folks. Come plant a tree and see how our plantings are going!
Please don your gloves and come lend a hand at this month's BRAWL working bee!
We are returning to our Bega River sites to continue our strategy to install a middle and overstorey of native vegetation to shade out the weeds, stabilise the bank sediments and improve the river's unique biodiversity.
Ultimately, we want to establish populations of native plants that are self-sustaining, which will result in a vegetation representative of the River Oak Riparian Forest that once occurred along the river.
So here are the details:
What: BRAWL April Working Bee.
When: Monday, April 9, 9.30-12.30pm.
Where: Bega River. Meet at the Main Reserve most eastern table (at bottom of Auckland St) for a quick briefing and safety talk.
Wear: Sun safe clothing, sun hats, closed sturdy shoes, sunscreen. Bring: Gloves, water bottle, morning tea to share, thermos.
Please remember there are no toilets at the site. Come along and help our plantings get the best start and lets keep transforming the Bega River into something we can all be proud of!
Also, check out a video of our fabulous working bee at Spenco Wetland last month on our facebook page. Wow, we really did transform the place! Hope to see you there!
Spiral Gallery exhibitions
Spiral Gallery’s new exhibitions open on Friday, April 6, at 5pm.
Waves of Colour in Gallery 1: South Coast artists explore colour and movement in various media: paintings, ceramics, sculpture, jewellery and glass; a group exhibition featuring Spiral Gallery Members and invited artists.
Bingi Bingi in Gallery 2: Helen Pizzano is a Canberra-based digital artist.
Bingi Bingi will showcase Helen's kaleidoscope photographic images exploring colour and texture from the vibrant Bingi Bingi Point, on the NSW South Coast.
Printed on art paper and silk scarves, the colours are bold and eye-catching and make for a mesmerising exhibition.
Helen’s aim is to find beauty in the everyday and, through her art, make every day beautiful.
All welcome to meet the artists at the opening at 5pm. Both exhibitions continue to May 2.
Narek Gallery exhibition
The new Narek Gallery exhibiting space in Bermagui is thrilled to present another solo exhibition by Annie Franklin.
Living and working at Lake Wapengo for the past couple of decades, Annie’s creativity is stirred by her surrounding natural world.
Looking intimately at this world not of our making, her acute attentiveness observes the minute and small activities as well as the grand sweeping dramas. And much more than that – the connectiveness of it all.
Her paintings glow like illuminations and emanate a warmth of deep feeling for the flora and fauna, insects and reptiles and all living organisms of the natural world.
Being Here is open now and continues to May 5. Narek Galleries now located at 5/3 Wapengo St, Bermagui, open Wednesday to Saturday 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm.
Blood bank to visit Bega
The Australian Red Cross Mobile Blood Service is visiting Bega:
Monday, April 16, 12 noon–5pm.
Tuesday, April 17, 9am–5pm.
Wednesday, April 18, 9.30am–5.45pm.
Thursday, April 19, 9am-2.30pm.
If you haven't already made an appointment to give blood, you can make an appointment online or call us on 13 14 95.
One in 3 Australians will need blood, but only one in 30 donates. Donated blood helps cancer patients, people with blood disorders, mothers-to-be and newborn babies, as well as trauma and surgical patients.
Men’s breakfast on again
We had a good attendance at the March Men’s Breakfast and we all enjoyed a very interesting talk from Garry Mallard about the fascinating world of bees, and also the informative “props” he brought along, such as a working section of a hive.
Our next get-together will be on April 7 and we hope you can join us for our usual good fellowship, hearty breakfast and interesting guest speaker.
This week the speaker will be Rev Tim Narraway, a Chaplain who was heavily involved in the Tathra disaster and one of the first responders.
Looking forward to meeting up with you (and any friends you may like to bring) on April 7 at 8am, at St John’s Anglican Church Hall, Bega.
