The championship swims were held over three weeks recently with distances up to 800m right down to the 33m sprints with points tallied from each event to decide the age champions for the year. Last Saturday was the final round with swimmers enjoying a dinner and presentations after their final competitions.
Swim coaches Zoe and Mark Philipzen presented the trophies to the age champions, as well as selecting coach’s award winners with their decisions being based on the efforts and achievements for the whole season.
These were given to Brodie Irvin for consistent effort and massive improvements from the start of the season, Tayla Smith for outstanding achievement's and representing at state level, Rylan Byrnes for consistent hard work and his record results.
Rylan, 8, broke two records last year and four this year. one that has stood since 1983 for 200m breaststroke. The others were 200m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle both from 1999 and 800m Freestyle from 2004.
Kirstyn Thomas received the encouragement award for consistent hard training, continued improved times and great carnival attendance. A spokeseman said it was a great season and great to see new faces as well. “We are proud of all our swimmers and what they have achieved.”
