The Bega Valley Shire Council’s Mayoral Appeal Fund is the official avenue for financial donations, which will be distributed equitably to those affected, targeted to specific needs.
Financial donations are tax deductable and can be made via:
- Electronic bank transfer - BSB: 012525/ Account: 837535154
- In person at ANZ Bega Branch
- Credit Card over the phone, call (02) 6499 2345 (between 9:00am-4:30pm)
Donations made over the phone will receive a tax invoice via email. Donations made via bank transfer will be able to provide their transaction details to the Australian Taxation Office.
Due to overwhelming generosity, there is no current need for household items, clothing etc. However, if you do have goods you wish to donate, please register them with the Bega Valley Shire Council on (02) 6499 2222 and they can be donated at a more appropriate time.
ADELONG/TUMUT
In Adelong and Tumut, residents have made up 120 care packages from donated goods, as well as raised funds through a garage sale and sausage sizzle.
Organised by Di Gorman, the event raised $1030 as well as $400 worth of vouchers. A group of people who have holiday vans in Tathra will be bringing the care packages and donations down the mountain with them shortly.
GOULBURN/MARULAN
Meanwhile, Goulburn is rallying around the bushfire appeal with a big lunch event this Saturday, March 31.
The Goulburn Post reported a number of local businesses have pulled together to organise a fundraiser for Tathra in Belmore Park.
Coffee van proprietor Jim Catt is behind the event, where from 10am until 2pm, there will be a barbecue fundraiser, competitions and plenty of food and drinks. Every dollar raised on the day will go directly to Tathra.
“We all sometimes feel paralysed and helpless when disaster strikes,” Mr Catt said.
“So here's your chance to support the people of Tathra and in return get a great feed, or maybe win a fabulous prize.”.
The nearby Marulan Lions Club last weekend raised $8000 for the Tathra Bushfire Appeal. Members stationed themselves at both BP service centres at Marulan.
“A lot of us have been to Tathra on holidays and it’s part of our Lions area. All the money raised goes directly to the Tathra Bushfire Appeal handled by Merimbula/Pambula Lions, which will direct it to where it’s most needed,” publicity officer Christine Wyatt said.

The club’s efforts continue on Sunday, April 1, with a barbecue at Bunnings Goulburn, 9am until 4pm. All profits will also go to the Tathra appeal.
The Goulburn-Mulwaree Council also voted to donate $10,000 to the Bega Valley Shire Council’s Mayoral Appeal Fund and work out a mechanism to accept public donations it would forward on to that same fund.
SPRINGWOOD
A region itself ravaged by bushfire is paying it forward by organising a fundraiser for Tathra.
The Rotary Club of Springwood is holding a bushdance in mid-April, with proceeds to be shared between bushfire relief through Far South Coast Rotary clubs and the original proposed recipient of the event – Ronald McDonald House Westmead.
Springwood Rotary president Norm Kitto said the Rotary Clubs of Australia opened their hearts to the Blue Mountains, and especially the Winmalee community, during the 2013 bushfires, and this was their “small way of giving back”.
LAKE TYERS
Competitors in the Reel It In Fishing Lake Tyers Flathead Challenge raised $2400 over the weekend for the Mayoral Appeal Fund.
Frogs Hollow resident Glen Moffitt competed in the event near Lakes Entrance, Victoria, and said $1300 was raised from an auction and $1200 collected after the event.
“The reception we got was amazing,” Mr Moffitt said.
“The organisers dropped everything to allow us to be part of it, and let us do what we needed to do to try and help out.
“It’s good to see guys from the other side of the border helping out. It was one fishing village helping out another,” he said.
COOMA-MONARO
A fantastic night of dance and musical performances raised more than $4500 for the Tathra Bushfire Appeal on Saturday.
The Monaro Dance Centre was joined on stage by a host of musicians and entertainers for the big night.
