While the town remains evacuated, a handful of locals – perhaps some who stayed to fight the fire or have since made it back past the roadblocks – are milling about in shock, surveying the damage.

Firefighters are exhausted and covered in black soot and smoke, gratefully accepting a cuppa from locals still able to provide one.

While rumours abounded on Sunday afternoon and into the night about what businesses had been lost or not, it appears most have been saved.
The primary school is showing some signs of damage, but not extensive, while the recently renovated Tathra Hotel looks to have escaped unscathed.
