The Bega District Band formed in 1899 with the group of musicians practicing behind a butcher’s shop on Auckland St, before buying land in 1952 for a permanent rehearsal space.
A new exhibition covering the history of the band opens at the Bega Pioneers' Museum on Saturday, launching a new series of exhibitions based on the region’s community groups.
“We want more involvement with community groups, and every three months we will have a new exhibition,” the museum’s Aly Walsh said.
The exhibition is the first curated by the museum team, with the band lending the museum a range of instruments to display.
Current members will have their talents on show on Saturday from 11am, and entry is a gold coin donation.
