Thorburn slams rumours of new media career

Cassandra Thorburn has penned an open letter saying she finds it hurtful to be compared to her ex-husband Karl Stefanovic's new girlfriend but she has no desire to "exact revenge" on the Today show host for leaving her.

Thorburn's 21-year marriage ended in September last year and it emerged in February that Stefanovic was dating shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough.

On Monday, New Idea claimed that Thorburn, a former ABC journalist, and Lisa Wilkinson, Stefanovic's former Today co-host, were negotiating new media deals that would see them "come out on top" compared to Stefanovic.

The article claimed Thorburn was weeks away from finalising a new media career and quoted an anonymous "insider" who said: "Nothing would give her more satisfaction than being [sic] Karl at his own game after everything he's done to her".

In an open letter published in Woman's Day, Thorburn said the "pathetic article" was "totally baseless and utterly incorrect".

She revealed that Wilkinson hasn't spoken to her "since Karl left us for his new life last year" and her only career plans were to release a children's book in 2018.

"I don't feel the need to exact revenge on Karl for leaving me - I'm just happy to be starting a new chapter of my life," she wrote.

"I'm 100 per cent committed and concentrating only on being the best mum I can to three children who are experiencing all the difficulties that go with divorce.

"Jackson has just completed his HSC and my younger two keep me busy with dentists and dance concerts and their sport."

She said she found it hurtful to be compared to Yarbrough and she saw no competition between their respective relationships with Stefanovic.

"I find it very hurtful [New Idea] feel the need to compare Karl's new girlfriend Jasmine with me," she wrote.

"Karl and I created 21 years of memories - there's certainly no competition between our years together and their lives now.

"As I said to Woman's Day recently, the children still have a father, but I don't have a husband.

"I'm a busy stay-at-home mum - I've got a book to finish, and three young people to feed and love."

Fairfax Media previously reported that Wilkinson snubbed Thorburn at the recent Australian Women's Weekly Women of the Future awards.
