Carey, 22, competed in the junior men’s division at the Australian Fitness Show held in Melbourne on October 14-15.
Carey said ahead of the show his preparation had been an intense 15 weeks of strict diet and training, and he enjoyed the support of his colleagues and personal training clients at United Fitness Studio in Bega.
In a weekend Facebook Post, United wrote “What a performance! You've made us all proud!”
Work colleague Shaun Ruzicka said Carey was a little disappointed not to place better than fourth, “but he’s pretty strict on himself”.
“He’s certainly taking it to the next level.
Before the competition, Ruzicka said it was quite an achievement for Carey “as he has faced more obstacles than most to get where he is”.
“[But] he’s always had natural size – I wish I had his genetics, it would make things a lot easier,” he said with a laugh.
