As of September 30, $496,073 has been paid to patients since the branch was formed 11 years ago. In the past year the assistance given was greater than the funds raised, making it necessary to use funds held in reserve.
Can Assist is an organisation that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and carers who are suffering financial hardship while receiving treatment. Although this branch is based in Bega, assistance is given to people across the Bega Valley Shire and members are being sought from all towns within the area.
Help can be given in many ways such as selling raffle tickets, baking cakes, assisting at fundraising events or generating new ideas for raising money. It only takes a small amount of time. Meetings are held at Club Bega on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30 pm. However, it is not essential that members attend every meeting, you will be kept well informed by email. For further information phone John on 0448 811 517.
In other Can Assist news, the trash and treasure sale held in September was a great success with almost $3000 raised. Many thanks to the generous people who supported this.
Unfortunately, the open garden day that was to be held in November has been cancelled due to the dry weather. Planning is underway for the popular Oaklands fundraiser to be held on February 25 next year.
If any cancer patients need assistance, call the liaison officer on 0439 328 634.
