With the Tathra Sea Eagles Australian Rules Football Club joining forces with Clean Energy For Eternity, a makeover of the clubhouse will also see it help the town meet it’s 2020 clean energy targets.
“It all started when my wife and I went to see Professor Ross Garnaut talk at a Clean Energy for Eternity event,” Sea Eagles secretary Dave Howard said this week.
“Clean Energy for Eternity have now given us a letter of intent to partner on a solar project.”
Mr Howard said the club is working towards becoming a more inclusive, and growing its bonds with the community, which means creating a more family oriented space at Lawrence Park, the team’s home ground.
There are plans to have the clubhouse area become the start of the Tathra to Bega cycle path, and plans being thrown around for a gym and half-court basketball court into the future.
The partnership with Bega Tathra Safe Ride will be celebrated this weekend.
The club is urging the entire community to be part of the Bega Tathra Safe Ride NSW Bike Week Community Ride from Tathra to Bega on Sunday, September 24.
With 100 riders signed up, the clubhouse will be serving breakfast and coffee from 7.30am to 10.30am.
“You could ride to Kalaru and come back,” Mr Howard said.
“It is only 11 kilometres so you don’t have to be that fit.”
Money raised will go towards a photovoltaic system, and with successful grant applications the clubhouse will expand to host events including weddings and birthdays.
“It doesn’t stop here,” Mr Howard said.
“We’ll keep working together.”
