Officials said Bega supporters turned out to Eden’s George Brown Memorial in droves to support the four teams contesting the finals.
The first two rounds of the day had spectators on the edge of their seats as the underdogs got up on both accounts.
A video message in the sheds from former Bega Rooster and current Melbourne Storm lock Dale Finucane was just the perfect lead up to the grand final win for the Under 10s.
The Bega 10s rattled the undefeated Narooma devils early with a try to Rory Deighton and soon after another to Kaelan Luff.
Deklan Ferguson was making great metres up the middle and Bega's defence was rock solid. Narooma then came back late in the 2nd half and the scores were level at 16-16 at full time. Golden point extra time play was from one end to the other until Louis Willington crossed the line to win the game for the Roosters after an unfortunate handling error from Narooma.
Proud coach David Armstrong said the win was a great “whole team effort” as the boys got up in extra time 22-18.
Tries were scored by Rory Deighton, Kaelan Luff, Braedy Armstrong and Louis Willington. Rylan Russell, Louis and Rory kicked conversions.
Begas Aedan Reeve was also the inaugurual recipient of the Noa Jessop Memorial Under 10s player of the match.
Officials said possibly the greatest win of the day was Bega’s gutsy ‘Little Chicks’ 9-12 year league-tag team.
“The girls finished fourth in the Regular Competition and they had been convincingly beaten prior by all the teams they were up against in the finals,” a spokeswoman said.
“However, they lifted each and every week and the finals and grand final was their day.
“Everyone in the team stood tall and played their best footy. They shell shocked Tathra with great tagging and goal kicking.”
Bega clinched the match 28-20 with Lara Parbery planting five tries. Goal kickers included Lara, Phoebe Ruzika, Summer Norris and Jasmine Constance.
The girls were super excited to have Australian Jillaroo Kezie Apps at the game and to be presented as the first ever Winners of the Kezie Apps 9-12 League Tag Shield was an extra special moment.
Lara was crowned player of the grand final for her efforts.
Unfortunately, the senior tag and 16s both went down to speedy Narooma outfits, going down 20-0 in league tag and 27-4 in the 16s.
Junior presentation day is Sunday at the Bega Recreation Ground from 10.30am.
